Tonehammer Contest

This is a piece written for the first Tonehammer Contest.  The idea was to feature some of the Tonehammer libraries in the piece, and given the quality and uniqueness of their samples it isn’t very difficult to come up with ideas.  This features both the Forgotten Voices: Francesca and Whale Drum libraries.

The aim wasn’t to create a memorable theme, but a memorable mood with a strong pulse that slowly builds.  The song hovers between two keys and uses 1/4 tones to add to the feel.

Here’s what they had to say:

Keith created a very moody/ethnic piece combining our Forgotten Voices Francesca library with our Whale Drums. The piece shows how a smaller tuned percussion instrument like a whale drum can still be used for action paced type of underscoring, while using Francescas haunting vocals on top. Just a great moody score.

In case you’re curious, the piece came in fourth.
